"A wonderful experience !" 5 of 5 stars *****
"It was our first time in an non all-inclusive vacation, so we were a little bit stressed about how it would be. As we arrived to Don and Gail's house, we were instantly reassured on the quality and security of this place! The house is perfectly located near the ocean. You can take Don's kayak to go to a small island (about 10 minutes) The balcony offers you a spectacular view on the ocean and on Moriah harbour's cay all the amenities in the house are there to make your stay comfortable. The house is 20 minutes by car from George Town (the main point of Exuma) There are a lot of isolated beaches on the island, mostly less then 10 minutes from the house. Don and Gail have a satchel where they listed the restaurants, beaches and activities on the island. They are also available to answer your questions if you need it ! We are a couple who really like travelling to discover the place we visit and we really loved the experience here in the Bahamas: Renting the house, renting a car and we were free to eat, to visit and do whatever we wanted to do when we wanted!! Exuma is very safe, people are friendly, and you can find pleasure just to lay back at isolated beaches or you can find other places to hang out with other tourists and locals like on Stocking island, George Town, etc. We will return in the Bahamas and we highly recommend Harbour View vacation rental."
Exceeded My Expectations !!
Submitted: January 9, 2013 Stayed: December 2012 After exploring by kayak, car, and foot, I can't imagine a better more central location upon this quaint little island. Thank goodness for the prompt and detailed directions provided by the owners as my plane was delayed and it was getting dark. Having reserved a car, I easily picked it up at the airport, stopped by the market, and then drove the solitary highway to an obscure turn off marking my destination. A warm greeting and a quick orientation, followed by a glass of wine, a cigar, and the breath-taking stars overhead - heaven! I chose this property not only for the location and price, but also because I would be able to use the owner's kayak - a two-seater, open Cayman model. I was able to sit and paddle hard when moving against wind or tide, or stand and use it like a paddle board when moving with the tide. Both ways allowed be great mobility in the shallow waters of the marine sanctuary which sits in view of the house. I really have no words that can capture the beauty and feelings that enveloped me while on the water. It was truly magical, and the only limits to my exploration were determined by the amount of daylight by which I could navigate. I simply didn't want it to end. I for one love the solitude, and believe me when I say I was alone! I did make it into town a few times. I even went to Stocking Island to play some volley-ball with a bunch of boaters - the regulars of the Chat and Chill bar area. Everyone I encountered was exceedingly friendly and gracious. I made many new friends. Great Exuma is not for everyone. It's not refined - its a little rough. It's not fast and exciting - its lay back and simple. It's not a clean and tidy island, but the charm shines through if you let it. If you are open to adventure, or you seek a tranquil setting from which you can rediscover nature and peace, this place is where you belong. Oh, and by the way, the cozy bed, big shower, TV / wi-fi, and the coffee maker were perfect at days end.
"Feels Like Paradise" *****
This was our first time in the Bahamas. We choose the Exumas for their great nature and their beautiful lonely beaches. When we decide to plan the trip on our own, we start our search after a nice accommodation to stay. We decide to spend our vacation at *harbour view vacation rental* It's an amazing place to stay, Don & Gail are gorgeous, they invite us in there home with a very warm welcome. They were always there to give us good advices or making a phone call or a reservation. We enjoy the little chats and the BBQ (thanks to Don) so much. When you lay in bed or had a little break on gallery you had a wonderful view of the ocean and mariah harbour. Near to the house are wonderful beaches to relax and snorkel. Some of them are not easy to find, but Don & Gail write a manual to their guest. There you can find turn-by-turn directions. You can also find restaurants, maps and other good informations in it. Another feature is Don's Kayak, which is allowed to use to explore mariah harbour. There you can find amazing sand beaches where your footprint is the only one for the day. We enjoy this kayak trips a lot. When you go there make sure you made a car rental. This is the easiest way to explore the whole island, get provisions or to go out for diner. We spend a perfect vacation in the Exumas, we love to come back some day.
"One of the best vacations we've had" *****
Exuma is one of the most beautiful places we've ever visited. The beaches are breathtaking and the people are warm and inviting! Harbour View House was the icing on the cake. The house is beautiful and in situated directly across from the picturesque Moriah Cay. Gail and Don are the perfect hosts. They are lovely people who are there to provide guidance, recommendations, advice, about things to do or places to see. Yet, they are so unassuming that we didn't know they they were there unless we needed them. A perfect balance. We've already referred several friends to Harbour View and will definitely be back to visit ourselves next year!
"Stunning views" 5*****
Harbour view was perfect for all our needs and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Don and Gail were wonderful and helped plan your trip to ensure you make the most out of your stay. The kayak was great fun exploring the surrounding islands and we loved the fact that it was so peaceful and quiet with hardly another person around. Don and Gail called ahead to restuarnat a to check they were open and looked after us very well. The apartment was clean, comfortable and well equipped. I would recommend staying here to anyone. We hope to return one day soon.
5 star *****
This house was exactly what we were looking for. It was a great location, well furnished, very clean, and had an awesome view. It is probably one of the best deals on the Island. We paddled over to Moriah Cay for half the days and had a wonderful time kayaking, exploring, fishing, shelling and swimming. We spent the other half of our time exploring the Island. Our hosts, Don and Gail never intruded on us but were always there to answer any questions including calling local restaurants to assure they were open. We have stayed at another house on the Island a few years back but the lack of any on site support left us always wondering about things. Not so with the owners just downstairs - it was a huge plus! We will be back. We have been travelling to the Exumas for the last 25 years and this was one of the best trips we had and by far the most economical. We are already planning next years trip. I cannot say enough positive things about staying at this location. Truly an awesome experience
5 star *****
Of all the possible places we could have picked to stay I couldn't have been happier to have chosen 'Harbour View'. My wife and I were looking for a quiet location away from it all in order to just chill out and take it easy for a week but finding somewhere that has the right balance of comfort, price and locale is a difficult task and having made mistakes in the past I really wanted to get it right this time. If you're looking for a 'resort' type of atmosphere then this is the wrong place for you, this will be the opposite of the 'canned' vacation you would find there, instead you will find a spacious apartment offering solitude with everything you need from a very comfortable bed, reliable wifi, basic kitchen, a living room (that has a pullout bed for kids), not one but two bathrooms, reliable AC and a balcony all to yourself with a view that I'm at a loss for words to describe. Moriah Cay is just a couple of hundred yards away and easily accessible with the kayak provided, I highly recommend a trip there if you want to experience beautiful deserted beaches and turquoise waters of almost impossible color, take a packed lunch with you and lots of sunscreen! I thoroughly recommend renting a car so you can explore more of the island, we got one through Thompsons who provided us with a reliable Honda Accord with a good 100,000 miles on the clock but as I said it was reliable so who cares?! It's not like you're going to be covering hundreds of miles in Exuma because you can't! You just need transport to the next beach or watering hole……. We also rented a small Boston Whaler from Minns to explore Stocking Island and some of the other Cays nearby, this is thoroughly recommended, Don and Gail (our hosts) pointed out some of the choice places to visit which we intended to do but ended up falling in with the crowd at Chat N Chill (great open air beach bar/restaurant) and we achieved about 30% of our goals but no problem because it just gives me more of an excuse to return sometime so we can finish our exploration! Don and Gail who own Harbour View and live on the lower floor could not have been more accommodating, they are warm, friendly, genuine people from England who have lived in Exuma for a long time, they are very knowledgeable of what there is to do and offer great advice when needed but also respect your privacy so you can enjoy the wonderful solitude that this location has to offer. We can't wait to go back!
Beautiful place with some shortcomings"
We stayed at Harbour view in april and were well received by its owners, Don and Gail. The house has 2 floors and they rent the top. The house has a good location and it's 15 minutes from George Town way to Little Exuma (definitely we recommend a car for getting around the island). Harbour View is also close to 2 of the best beaches in the exumas, Tropic of Cancer Beach and Pretty Molly Bay. The space they rent of the house consists of a spacious bedroom with a queen size bed and English style furniture, and has a window overlooking the sea and the cays, but does not have any kind of curtain, something really unexplainable, the sun makes you wake up at 6 am. Also the room has a large and well decorated bathroom, air conditioning which makes noise and it's a bit annoying to sleep at night. There is a another room that can be a dining room with a kitchen in which we find a refrigerator, a microwave and electric oven, but no stove making it difficult to prepare several meals. Also in the room is a small TV and small dining table 90 x 45 cms. approx. with 3 chairs, there is another bathroom attached to this room. You can also find a bookcase with several books and the owners have prepared a folder with everything you can do on the island. The house has a terrace which can be used by the guests with breathtaking open views of the sea and the cays, really spectacular. You can also use the kayak and reach Moriah Cay and Man o War Cay which are just meters from the house, we recommend the beaches and one can be truly alone (use sunscreen 30 or 50 because the sun is terrible there). The negative aspects were: the lack of curtains in the bedroom, the lack of stove in the kitchen, lack of washing and drying machines, the lack of a telephone for local calls and air conditioning noise in the bedroom. Don and Gail are kind people, they like to talk and try to advise the best possible, they should try to correct these points to enhance the stay of the guests.
